SAO PAULO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira will spend the next two weeks in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Friday.

The 41-year-old Portuguese will be replaced by his assistant Vitor Castanheira for the club's upcoming matches against Santos, Libertad (home and away) and Bahia, according to a Palmeiras statement.

It did not provide details of Ferreira's condition.

Palmeiras are currently fifth in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with 10 wins, seven draws and five losses. They trail leaders Sao Paulo by seven points.

The 10-time top flight champions will advance to the Copa Libertadores semifinals if they beat Libertad on aggregate on December 8 and December 15.

Ferreira took charge of Palmeiras in October after the sacking of former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
