BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Giovanni van Bronckhorst has returned to his native Netherlands after resigning as head coach of Guangzhou R&F, the Chinese Super League club announced on Friday.
The Guangzhou club posted some pictures on its social media platform early on Friday morning showing that Van Bronckhorst took pictures with supporters at the Guangzhou airport before departing for the Netherlands.
"This morning, some fans went to the airport to see off van Bronckhorst who was to fly back to the Netherlands from Guangzhou," the club said.
"Though he coached the R&F side for only one year, the fans have been captivated by the reform work he did on the team and his personality," the club added.
45-year-old van Bronckhorst, a Champions League winner with Barcelona in 2006, turned in his resignation to the club's administration after his side lost to Shangdong Luneng in a shootout 5-4 after a 2-2 draw in the third round of CFA Cup on Wednesday.
